Moths in your home or business can cause extensive damage to carpets, textiles and clothing. Often damaging carpets under furniture, they can multiply unseen in large numbers before an infestation becomes apparent.
Maggots in the house?
We frequently get calls from people saying they have maggots crawling in their carpets. These more often than not turn out to be moth caterpillars.
It is these moth larvae that actually cause the damage, as they feast on animal based fibres, especially wool. Clothes will be riddled with small holes, and carpets will have bald patches where these hungry larvae have fed.
The larvae of case bearing clothes moths live in a white silken tube. You may find these around skirting boards, and under rugs and furniture.
How do you treat moths?
Adult moths and their larvae are treated with a residual insecticide treatment, which is only available to professional users. Once the treatment is dry, your property can be used as normal. We ask you to undertake a very thorough vacuum of your house prior to us applying the treatment. It is important that you do not vacuum or deep clean treated areas for a few weeks after the treatment, to enable any hatching larvae to make contact with the treatment.
If you have an ongoing issue with textile moths, we can introduce hormone based mating disruptors to affected areas. This will greatly reduce future numbers.
